REASONS WHY BOREHOLE WATER SHOULD BE TREATED

Pure clean water is essential in a day to day life and such borehole water is not suitable for use due to the elements found in these water.

TDS

Total dissloved solids in water gives it a bitter taste, salty taste or brackish colour.

Two minerals normally found in TDS (calcium and magnesium) can cause water hardness, scale formation and staining.

HARDNESS

Hardness in water has a number of negative effects, which inlcude scale build up on plumbing fixtures and appliances resulting to frequent plumbing repairs, dry skin and hair, faded clothes, stained sinks and bathtubs, unslightly dishware aand excessive use of water.

FLOURIDE

Excessive consumption of water with high flourides causes flourosis which effects teeth and bones.

it also leads to severe skeletal problems (stiffness and pain in the joints).

PH(POTENTIAL HYDROGEN)

Water with a low ph can be acidic, naturally soft and corrosive. Water with a ph greater than 8.5 tastes bitter, dry skin, itchy and irritated.

IRON

Iron overload can lead to hemochromatosis which can cause damage to liver, heart and pancrease. It may also lead to clogging in pipes due to residue formation.

COLIFORM BACTERIA

Coliform bacteria in water can indicate a possible presence of harmful disease causing organism called pathogens and can be viruses, protozoa or bacteria.

SUSPENDED SOLIDS

This will increase water temperatures and decrease dissolved oxygen because suspended particles absorb more heat from solar radiation than water molecules will.
